Am I eligible? [top]

If you are currently enrolled as a student in any United Kingdom or Irish university, you are eligible. You will need a European battle.net account to play.

How can I see if a team exists at my college or university? [top]

Check the List of Registered Teams for your college or university.

My team exists. How do I join it? [top]

Go to your team page under the List of Registered Teams. Click "Join." Your request will be sent to the team coordinator.

My team doesn't exist. How do I register a team? [top]

If your team is not currently on the List of Registered Teams AND you would like to coordinate for your team, go to Team Registration. If you want to join a pre-existing team or join only as a player, do NOT register a team here.

What responsibilities does a coordinator have? [top]

The coordinator serves as a liaison between his or her team, other teams, and CSL:EU staff. The coordinator's main responsibilities are administrative:

  • Approve players (registration)
  • Submit lineups (every Tuesday)
  • Submit match reports and replays (every Sunday)
  • Communicate

Coordinators should communicate effectively and operate on a timely fashion. Responsibilities vary from person to person, but in general the position should take anywhere from 1-3 hours weekly.

How many players do I need to make a team? [top]

You will need an absolute minimum of 5 unique players to play.

My school doesn't have enough players. Can I join another school's team? [top]

CSL does not usually allow inter-college teams. However, there are exceptions to this rule: is your college or university closely affiliated to another? Is your student body size less than 5,000? If you answered yes to both, or if there are special circumstances that make it difficult for you to find teammates, it is possible that we can make an exception.

What is the format of gameplay this season? [top]

This season there will be up to five sets per match: three 1v1s, one 2v2, and a 1v1 Ace Match as needed. A player can participate in at most two sets every week, so one 1v1 and the Ace or one 2v2 and the Ace.

What is an Ace Match? [top]

If both teams are tied at 2-2 after the 4th set, a 5th set is played. This is called the Ace Match. The ace match players are unannounced, meaning that the players will only be announced immediately before the set takes place. The Ace player can be anyone on the team's roster, even someone who already played in an earlier set. The Ace match is the only game where a team is allowed to use a player a second time.

How do I submit a lineup? [top]
Start by clicking on your "My Team" page at the top right of the site. From here there are two ways to arrive at the "Set Lineups" page.

Path 1: THE MATCH SCHEDULE
1. Scroll down to the Match Schedule section.
2. Find the correct week, and click on the link (which is the school name that you will be playing) for your current match.

3. You'll be brought to a new page. It will show you the lineups for that match (which should not be available - you can use this page to verify whether or not your lineups have been submitted successfully). Click on the "SUBMIT LINEUP" button (as opposed to the draw page).
4. Proceed to Section 3.

Path 2: MANAGE LINEUPS
1. Toward the top right of your team page (but not of the entire site), click on the "MANAGE LINEUPS" button.
2. You'll be brought to a new page. It will show you the complete list of all lineups that you will ever need to submit (you can use this page to verify whether or not your lineups have been submitted successfully). Find the appropriate match, and click the "SET LINEUPS" button on the right.
3. Proceed to Section 3.

SECTION 3: THE LINEUPS PAGE
1. Take note of the prominent box describing the limitations on lineups. Read carefully, and make sure your lineups don't conflict with any rules.
2. You can set your lineups below this box. The first column of drop boxes is for each player's race. The second column is to pick the player. The drop box will contain all of your registered + active players.

3. Set your lineups (set 1 through set 4 - ACE match selection will ONLY be available when necessary).
4. Click the SUBMIT button.

Congratulations! "Your lineup has been submitted successfully."

How do I submit match results? [top]

  1. Go to your match page. Click "League," "[Your Team Name]", and then click on the specified match in your schedule.

Special note: If you are using a substitution (same race, not already in lineup, only one per match), please contact ANY division admin with the original player and new player's ID so that you can send in the replay. If there's no one available to do this, email the replay and the substitution information to eu@cstarleague.com. If you are claiming a forfeit win, please email eu@cstarleague.com with any screenshots/evidence to prove that you were waiting and they were not until 30 minutes after the agreed time. For example, screenshots of battle.net where their team is offline, chat records, IRC records, confirmation from the opposing team's coordinator. You can also have an admin verify that your team is online while the other team (or player) is not.

  2. Go to "Report Game" and submit the correct replay
  3. Choose the winner
  4. Recommend the replay if it's worth watching
  5. Congratulations! You're done.

How do I receive help during/after a match? [top]
If at any time you need assistance before or after match times (the time when a match is to be played), please post in the Match Assistance forums. There, create a thread detailing the help you need, any pertinent information, and any steps you may have already attempted to resolve the problem. One of our match assistance will help you as soon as we can.

On match day, you should join our IRC channel on QuakeNet (enter #csleu as the channel). While you may need to post a forum thread as well, this will alert an admin to your problem and help you quickly deal with any minor problems or game-day questions you have.

Problems with walkovers, forfeits, no-show players or teams, substitutions, and errors or trouble uploading replays are issues you should contact an admin about. While match admins may be available in the CSLEU channel on Battle.Net, this is not always the case; thus, please use either the IRC channel or the Match Assistance forums if you cannot find anyone in Battle.Net chat.

I tried logging on incorrectly 3 times and got IP banned. Isn't that too harsh? [top]

Drupal sites have a history of being attacked by Spam Bots. CSL:EU is no exception. Our site uses Google's reCAPTCHA service, where possible, to make form submission harder for bots. Additionally, we use Project Honey Pot to check every request against known spam-bot IP addresses.

This was effective until recently, when we began noticing another attack. Spam-bots are attempting to brute-force passwords for existing user accounts, to post spam as verified users. We now automatically IP ban anyone that fails to login after 3 tries. We agree that this policy is harsh, but it has dropped the success of brute-force attacks.

Please note that account login occurs over a standard http connection so it is not safe. We strongly urge you to use a unique password for your account on the CSL:EU website!

Why are my stats not showing up on my profile, even though I have entered my information correctly? [top]

We get stats from SC2Ranks.com - in their own words: "Blizzard does not provide any easy to use list of players, we rely on cascade spidering through saved players, manually entered players and spidering through Blizzard forums to find players."

If your stats do not show up, head over to SC2Ranks.com, click on "Add Battle.net URL" at the top, enter your Battle.net profile URL, and the site will queue you and your division to be added within around 24 hours.

I know school emails are required, but can I receive emails to a different address? [top]

If you wish for emails to be sent to an alternate email address (and not to your school email), you can fill in the "Correspondence Email" field under "Site Preferences" when you edit your account details. If you fill out this field as a school coordinator, you will override the contact email displayed on your team profile.
